A key trend this year, and perfect for the spring season, is the quirky flatform. Running with the wedge heel. Designers have combined it with the dramatic platform to make the flatform. The flatform heel pays special attention to two key 70s footwear styles, and it is not just in the footwear department that you will find a strong concentration of seventies themes. The new flatform heels provide a great way to add skyscraper height to your spring look but they are comfortable too.
Wedge heels look set to be a major trend for the spring. This year they have been given an update, with the help of contrasting materials and natural textiles. Must have materials and finishes include corks, wood, brass and gold, leather and suede. For an instant update, look for lace up wedges for a strong statement shoe. Wedges look great in combination with the seasons hottest clothing trends, especially the seventies hippy trend and the earthy colors of spring and summer.Woven finishes were a noticeable catwalk trend. Woven detailing to the upper look great on wedges and flatforms, and woven detailing to the heels are a great eye catching natural touch. Even Mary Jane's took on a new woven form on the catwalks, particularly at Prada. Their spring catwalk featured Mary Jane's with delicately woven uppers and heels too.In terms of color for this spring, you will find three major color groups to choose from, with all palettes looking to mother nature for inspiration. The biggest trend is for citrus and this is, an instant way to bring a touch of holiday sunshine to your look. Look out too for the desert and earth colors where the emphasis is on brown shades and desert tones. And lastly there comes the nude color group, as was seen running throughout the footwear on show at Stella McCartney and Chloe for spring 2011.As well as the casual clog design, you will also see brand new selection of refreshing clog styles from chunky skyscraper heel clogs to the kitten heel variety. Traditionally clogs have a leather upper but this year they can be anything from canvas to linen to studded cloth.Elizabeth Baur is a freelance fashion writer, blogger, and self confessed shoe addict.
